Microsoft recently launched a new document translation feature that is now available in SharePoint and OneDrive. This update allows documents to be translated into multiple languages simultaneously, which can improve productivity and efficiency for users working in international environments.
Simultaneous translation into multiple languages
Previously, users were limited to translating documents into one language at a time, but with the new update you can now select up to ten languages per translation. The feature supports multiple file formats, including Word documents and PDFs, and translated copies are automatically added to the same library and folder as the original. More details about supported languages and file formats can be found at here.
Customized glossary for industry-specific needs
Another exciting update is the ability to create and use a custom dictionary for translations. This is especially useful for companies and industries with specific terminology, such as pharmaceutical companies or engineering companies. By adding your glossary to the translation request, you can ensure that specialized terms are translated correctly. At the moment, however, you can only translate into one language at a time when using a custom dictionary. Learn how to use custom dictionaries in SharePoint here.
Automation with SharePoint Rules
Both the translation and the use of custom glossaries can be automated using SharePoint rules, which means that the translation can be triggered by a file change or metadata change. This feature can further simplify and streamline workflows and is a step forward in improving the user experience.
With these new features, companies can better manage their multilingual document needs and ensure that their employees have access to the right translations in a timely manner. The simultaneous translation feature and custom glossaries will be rolled out from January 2025, with the ability to try services free of charge until June 2025 for those who have activated pay-as-you-go payment. We look forward to hearing how these new features can help your organization and welcome feedback and shared experiences!
